Folk Night programme for 2015 launched

This year promoter Mick Harding of Mad Dog Folk is launching his 2015 programme by showcasing the music of NE3Folk.

“This group really is a band on a mission,” said Mick.  “They are dragging traditional music kicking, tapping and soaring into the modern era.”

“The trio, Cathy Geldard, Victoria Laurenson and Chris Meredith, although now based in Newcastle all hail from Scotland with Catherine and Victoria having their roots in the Shetland Islands,” Mick went on.

“Their music – intricate rhythms and dissonance intertwining in subtle and detailed arrangements to sensitively deliver a wide array of traditional and original tunes -combines Shetland and Scandinavian fiddle with delicate accordion, driving guitar and eclectic influences,” he went on.

“Cathy Geldard tantalizes audiences with her unique blend of the shetland fiddle style with every other style available to her  while the graceful melodies that emanate from Victoria’s accordion are beautifully attuned to her left hand’s eclectic influences.

“This leaves Chris Meredith’s driving guitar complimented by his use of dissonance and complicated rhythms. A band to recommend and not to miss!” Mick continued.

NE3Folk has undertaken multiple tours of Norway and made a big impression on the festival scene playing at Shepley, Moonbeams, Otley, Middlewich, and many more, all of which immediately booked them for the following year.

Supporting NE3Folk is Hull’s own Emily Moulton 18 year old acoustic singer-songwriter who is already proving to be a remarkable songwriter churning out jaw-dropping live performances.

Dave Johns: I, Fillum Star

The award-winning star of I, Daniel Blake brings his hit Edinburgh show to Barton upon Humber.

What happens to a comedian when he’s plucked from obscurity by master film maker Ken Loach and cast in the title role of one of the most acclaimed and talked about British films in recent years?

I, Daniel Blake became a beacon for social realism and, for Dave Johns, a rollercoaster ride of red carpet surrealism. From Cannes to the BAFTAs, chatting to Woody Allen in a lift and accepting awards alongside Hollywood’s greatest … he was there, wide-eyed… through it all.

Now he’s back doing the thing he loves best – making people laugh.
