Having studied classical piano and composition at Scotland’s RSAMD, Shetland-born singer Astrid Williamson formed her first band Goya Dress in the 1990’s going on to work with avant-garde rock legend John Cale (Velvet Underground) on full length LP ‘Rooms’. Subsequently, in a career spanning twenty years, Astrid has released six solo albums. The latest ‘We Go To Dream’ is out now on One Little Indian records (Bjork, Kathryn Williams). She has collaborated with various artists including Electronic (Johnny Marr and Bernard Sumner), Stereophonics and most recently film composer and songwriter Lisa Gerrard (Gladiator, The Insider). It was whilst collaborating on Gerrard’s latest solo album ‘Twilight Kingdom’ that Astrid was inspired to develop the classical side of her writing, ultimately leading to 2015 ‘Requiem & Gallipoli’ which was performed in Hessle All Saints’ Church in 2015 in aid of local veterans charities.
