Welcome return to Ropery Hall for Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys
One of the hits of last year at Barton upon Humber’s Ropery Hall, Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys, is returning later this month by popular demand.
Following the American group’s appearance 12 months ago The Ropewalk’s Liz Bennet was inundated with requests to bring her back – more so any other artists.
“”Last time she was superb so when I heard she was coming over to tour again this year I booked her in straight away,” said Liz. “They created a real buzz at their show last year and liked the Ropery Hall audience so much they too wanted a return gig.”
Touring with her band and a brand new album Southland which is out in April to promote this popular four-piece has previously taken Shetland Folk Festival and HebCeltFest by storm on previous visits and after flying in for their own (sold-out) headline show at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections in 2017, they soon became the talk of the town.
Hailing from all corners of the Great Lakes State of Michigan, Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys give a nod to American traditional music, while taking their own songs in new directions. Distinct vocals, tight harmonies, instrumental expertise, and creative arrangements are all essential characteristics of their unique sound. The group focuses on the original tunes of Lindsay Lou Rilko, which include true-life tales of bank-robbing aunties, moonshinin’ grandpas, and celebrations of love, life, and nature.
Lindsay Lou and her band have been on the road almost non-stop all over the USA – and now much further afield – since issuing their 2012 record, Release Your Shrouds.
That album showcased their superb instrumental ingenuity, Lindsay Lou’s stunning vocal range… and self-penned material that makes them very extra special.
“There is something for everyone in the band’s live performances,” Liz continued. “They are real passionate affairs from bluesy works of wonder to blistering gems of beauty. The band is certainly renowned for a fresh approach to the American roots genres which are explored and confidently conquered.”
Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys will be on the Ropery Hall stage on Friday, February 9, starting at 8pm. Tickets in advance cost £13 and £15 on the door. Advance tickets can be bought online at www.roperyhall.co.uk, in person from The Ropewalk’s Craft Gallery or by calling 01652 660380.
