Folk Nights 2019 begin with Sam Reider

Composer, accordinist, pianist and singer, Sam Reider is setting off Barton upon Humber’s Ropery Hall monthly folk nights in fine style when he appears at the Mattkiln Road venue at the end of this month.

San Francisco born Sam will be playing alongside The Human Hands, a band of young, virtuoso acoustic musicians based in New York City who have developed a reputation for mind-bending, high-energy sets.

“Sam is redefining American music on the accordion and has been featured at Lincoln Center and on NPR performing alongside pop stars, jazz and folk musicians ranging from Jon Batiste and Stay Human, Bluegrass mandolin prodigy Sierra Hull to Venezuelan cuatro virtuoso Jorge Glem,” said Liz Bennet of The Ropewalk.

His debut album, Too Hot To Sleep, saw Sam and the The Human Hands play irresistible melodies, fiery improvisations and otherworldly sounds.

Sam began performing at an early age and at university fell in love with American folk music, studying bluegrass and old-time music, and transcribing the fiddle melodies for the accordion.

Since then he has played back porches and dive bars, concert halls and major festivals in practically every state in the States and has travelled to China, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Turkey and Azerbaijan, carrying his accordion on his back and collaborating at every opportunity with international artists.

Sam’s gig begins at 8pm on Saturday, January 26, and tickets cost £14 in advance or £16 on the door. Advance tickets can be bought online at www.roperyhall.co.uk in person from The Ropewalk’s Craft Gallery or by calling 01762 660380.
