Benji Kirkpatrick and The Excess
Roots musician Benji Kirkpatrick returns to Ropery Hall for the second time in little more than a month, this time with his band, The Excess. Benji has long been the guitar and bouzouki-playing powerhouse at the core of successful bands Bellowhead, Seth Lakeman and Faustus. His own writings are now vibrantly being brought to life in The Excess; a classic power trio with Bellowhead band-mate, Pete Flood, on drums and Pete Thomas on bass. Benji leads on acoustic and electric bouzoukis and guitar and together the band stokes up rhythms, riffs and uproarious, soaring melodies. Sometimes cacophonous, sometimes stark and raw, at times sensitive, always powerful. Benji’s aim is to bring roots music to the mainstream fusing a range of styles with alt-rock, drawing on his Led Zeppelin and Hendrix influences. Debut album Gold is Worn Away is out on Westpark Records and available at: Spotify, Bandcamp and Apple Music.
