Clive Gregson: Farewell

A Mad Dog Folk presentation

Born and raised in Manchester, Clive Gregson is an accomplished singer, musician and record producer of world-renown. Mary Chapin Carpenter named him as one of her favourite songwriters, Melody Maker described his band Any Trouble, as the most exciting new rock ‘n’ roll group since The Pretenders and according to Guitar Player he’s one of the 1000 great guitarists. Clive is one of the most respected songwriters of his time with a steady stream of stunning albums throughout his career, many of his songs recorded by a host of contemporaries.

In 1985, he formed the groundbreaking partnership with Christine Collister and has toured with Richard Thompson, Eddi Reader, Boo Hewerdine, Nanci Griffith, Dennis Locorriere and as Jools Holland’s special guest. His most recent projects include the guitar trio 3 Boxes with Andy Roberts & Mark Griffiths as well as touring with Liz Simcock breathing new life into the Gregson & Collister material celebrating 30 years since the release of Home & Away and an album of brand new songs Underwater Dancing, inspired by that tour. Not forgetting, lots of solo shows too!

“…a powerful and vital force in contemporary music.” fROOTS

“Clive Gregson demonstrates again his finely-honed talent at writing contemporary songs that are direct and compelling, and which are capable of tearing at the emotions of the listener. The musicianship is faultless throughout. …the bottom line is that this is the front runner for my album of 2017 – by a mile. The title is extracted from the opening track and significantly reminds us of CG’s subtle sense of fun with words, which I can only compare with Elvis Costello.” The Living Tradition
